dude seriously, working in a cubicle sucks. less than 5 months ago, i worked in a nice office where i sat at a desk in a room with huge windows. It was slightly overcrowded, with 5 desks jammed into a space meant only for 2, maybe 3 desks at most. then the recession hit. and layoffs came. and cost-cutting became a priority. and i was moved to cubicleland. no windows. noface-to-face interaction. no life as i knew it.

i do the same job. the exact same job. and yet, i hate it so much more now. i'm prone to be more tired, irritable, unmotivated, easily distracted, etc... i'm not sure why. but i'm blaming it on the cubcile. i hate it. i want to set it on fire. i won't, obviously, but it's an urge that takes all of the self-control i have left to suppress. i thought i had a point in all this. i'm actually pretty sure i did, but i can't remember what it was.

with much difficulty and remorse, i recently ended a long-standing relationship with a dear friend. it was tough, very tough. and it's all i can do to not go back, but i know in the end that this is better for me. i need some "me" time. and i'm sure facebook understands.
i met facebook way back in 2005, after enough nerds from my college petitioned mark zuckerberg and associates long enough to give us access to the small, burgeoning social network. timid, insecure, and much more modest than the current incarnation you see, facebook and i hit it off from the very beginning. sure, there weren't any pictures or apps or notes or direct messaging or advertisements or tagging or surveys, but i saw the potential for a true friendship and knew i had to stick it out. so as facebook grew, i grew as well. facebook left college with me and , much like myself, branched out into the real world, no longer limiting ourselves to a college state of mind. the world was our oyster and as long as we had each other, we had it all spinning right in our hands. rain or shine, all the time. we had each other, sharing the laughter and love (sharing the laughter and love).
i was so proud of facebook. every day brought more friends, newer innovations. facebook was bringing the world together and was bringing my world together. through facebook, i've come into contact with old friends, maintained relationships with new ones, strengthened bonds that would have otherwise fallen apart. it is rare that a friendship would fit so seamlessly into my life and weave its way so deeply into the existing fabric, but facebook is different. i have not, nor will i ever find a friend quite like facebook.
but alas, all that glitters is not gold. facebook was starting to change. too busy evolving, facebook never had time for just the two of us. at first i didn't notice, distracted by facebook's insistence that i detail 25 things about me, or find out what sex and the city character i was, or contact the new friends it had found for me. and i went for it, hook line and sinker, falling deeper than i should have allowed myself to. and then, one day i wiped the crust from my eyes and realized i just didn't know facebook anymore. it seemed that facebook had become and anti-social network, a system who's sole purpose was to distract humanity from actual interaction. to make it appear that our friendships were real, but when the had in fact become digitized version of the bonds we once knew.
i stood aghast, not believing that i had let this happen, let my life become nothing more than the next release of the sims. i tried to unplug myself from the matrix, but you know they say that breaking up is hard to do, and breaking up is hard to do. several attempts fell short, but i persisted. facebook really was a great friend, but we just aren't in the same place in our lives right now. it had to be done.
and so, as midnight struck and may 1st turned into may 2nd, i officially deactivated my facebook account. it seemed like such an easy thing to do. and yet i find myself returning to the homepage, no longer able to access the network. on the outside unable to look in, i find my self scratching at the opaque glass, hoping to create an opening that would allow me to see my old friend again. my dear old friend.

i miss you facebook. but this is for the best.

it's a story of a girl...
i've said before i'm a sucker for a smile and a sad story, but even without that weakness i would've fallen for this one. unique, charming, intelligent, beautiful... i'd literally never seen anything like her before.
she's the prototype...

but as is always the case in things that seem perfect. they're not.
and it seems like you're racing the sun...
but of course, if we all stopped when sense and logic dictated we should, love and beauty would cease to propagate. and in regards to this girl..."beautiful is you and not the other way around." now i'm not sure if you've ever been lucky enough to see the corporal embodiment of an ethereal notion but believe, sense and logic go right out the window. and you kinda feel like...
nothing really matters...
and it's amazing how long you can really tell yourself that when you're caught up. when you're falling in love. when for the first time in a long time the days don't seem so rough and life is something to enjoy, not survive. when it really seems like there are only two people on this whole planet.
but reality has this funny way of always being real. not a whole lot of fun that is. because...
what i want should never hurt this bad...
and so it went. off and on. back and forth. from every day to almost never. but something kept it going. sometimes strong. other times weak. but always a pulse. she was my everything even when there was nothing. and vice versa, lest i sound obsessive or unrequited. our reality may not have been real, but our love always was and i take solace in that. and you know, it even got to the point, through all the bullshit that we were there and i knew that we would soon emerge from the darkness because she was
my light...
we had removed the thorn from every rose but the dawn of our night was short lived. "so we're official, right?"...happiest moment of my life lasted about two weeks. and then...more reality. and rightfully so, after all the stress and strife that surrounded us someone had to make the decision to call it quits. "its a shame"

so more than a full calendar year has passed and so much has happened. it hasn't been easy. i feel like i've been undergoing a painfully slow "soul-ectomy" losing a piece of myself every second. but that's not true. i just miss her. and she's in a happier place now, and though she misses me too the past has passed and the present is moving along whether we like it or not.
and me? i've come to grips with the situation. though i often relapse and make mistakes and get down in the dumps, i know that every day will continue to come and i must move forward with each one. but i always remember...

got a chance to check out will ferrell's new broadway show, 'you're welcome america. a final night with george w bush', on sunday. comedy gold i tell you. if you thought ferrell's portrayal of our now former commander-in-chief on snl was hilarious, be prepared to see him take this shtick to new heights.

the show is a completely and totally irreverent retrospective of bush's political career, focusing mainly on his 8 years as leader of the free world. the show is funny as all get out (what does that even mean? really. but i've always wanted to use that phrase and now i have. deal with it.) and manages to entertain with very little use of over the top gags that are present in much of ferrell's recent projects. not that there aren't some moments that make your eyes widen a bit, but they are used selectively and thus, with strikingly funny results.

i won't say anymore because every single second of this show needs to be seen to feel its' full effect. bottom line is, go see it. today. tomorrow. soon.

World Aids Day 2008

Every December 1st of each year is World Aids day. Unfortunately HIV, the virus that causes AIDS has reached pandemic proportions and is destroying lives more and more each year across the globe. Specifically, in the United States 90% of all newly diagnosed HIV cases are African-American women or women of color. There is much we can do, of the many things we can do is educate ourselves about what HIV is, learn to de-stigmatize HIV patients because HIV does not discriminate age, race, color, or sexual orientation and most importantly of them all, GET TESTED. Many people living with HIV do so for almost a year without knowing that they are infected and in the process infect many other people. Please take a moment to reflect on the fact that some of our friends, loved ones, co-workers or others we know and love may be living with this disease. Let us all decide to encourage others to be tested and to educate themselves about this disease. If you have never been tested for HIV, do yourself and the world at large a huge favor and go get tested. Test results can be kept confidential and the testing is fast and often does not require blood.

we have much to be thankful for over here at the BuzyFamily and we would like to take the time to thank you all for reading us, loving us, supporting us, or possibly even hating us. sometimes life's not long enough but it's still too short to not be thankful for every second. trust.

For many Americans across the nation Thanksgiving is a time in which the family comes together over a wide variety of rich and flavorful foods to be one and give thanks for their many blessings. It is a special time of the year in which friends and family, most of which often do not come together in such large numbers during any other time in the year, reach out to each other, share thanks and just kick it for good ole time sakes. When I think of Thanksgiving I get the image of a family in a big house, kids running around, the aroma of all types of delicious foods in the air, the men in the living room watching the game and having drinks and the ladies in the dining room sippin drinks and talking bout the kids and the food....its the onset of a very nostalgic time of the year, a period in which many lasting memories can be made.

However, as America has faced many changes over the last eight years, this holiday season may very well be a very tough, sad, and challenging one. It is no surprise that many American families haev lost homes, jobs, and savings. The economic depression has been devastating for many of us across America. Its something that we are constantly being reminded of in the media and it seems like the country will need a miracle to rebound from such a depression. In all of these things I wish to encourage us as a people, to learn to be a little be more interdependent, share, and care more for our neighbors. Take responsibility for your neighbor. Invite a friend who you know has no local family to share the holidays with, feed a homeless person even if you just bring them out a plate of food...but if we take positive approaches to "these difficult times" we can reach out to and make a impact on the lives of those who suffer most during a time of year when people should be joyous instead of depressed and hopeless. Much love, blessings and health to everyone during this holiday season!

It's Been Awhile.........

Unfortunately I have not contributed to this blog as much as I anticipated but to be honest I have been going crazy sending out resumes, filling out job applications, and speaking to friends and family about potential job opportunities. On top of the job search I have been studying for the MCATS. The other day in the while sitting in the chair at the barbershop, my barber told me to wait and see how everyone will start calling at the same time. Well, he must be a damn psychic because yesterday I received two back to back calls for interviews. The job search is looking a bit more exciting despite the economic situation. So many people keep telling me that people arent hiring, instead they are firing and I have a few friends whose positions have been threatened by the economy. One thing that is for sure is that if I land a job, that pays well, and has excellent benefits, I am truly blessed. It shall come to pass....

spotted new knick cuttino mobley on my way to the train last night. he had just finished shopping at saks with his mom and female companion and was hailing a cab up to bloomingdales. way to stimulate the ny economy cat. no security, no entourage, just a normal guy out spending thousands of dollars. so i welcomed him to new york as he was getting into the cab and went about my merry way. seems like a nice guy, i hope that heart issue they are talking about isn't anything serious. go knicks.

but figured this was as good a reason as any to get write. so the roots got into a bus accident in paris. bus actually did a complete flip and dudes just got a couple of bumps and bruises. good deal. but waaaay more important than that - the roots will be the house band for "late night with jimmy fallon" when fallon takes over for conan (who is taking over for leno) next year. seriously, this is the most awesome news i've heard all week. i still won't stay up consistently to watch this show, but it will definitely be dvr'd regularly just in case. two thumbs up nbc!

just got in from voting. stood in line for about an hour. and loved every second of it. no complaining. no grumbling. all smiles. very proud of my parkchester neighbors.

also proud of dixville notch and hart's location, two small new hampshire towns who kicked off Election Day 2008 at midnight. these tiny towns have given obama an early lead in the popular vote, combining for a 32-16 vote in obama's favor. this is particularly impressive, given a strong history of republican support from the two towns.
